Port Houston

2024 TEEA Winner - Pollution Prevention

Port Houston owns and operates the public wharves and terminals along the Houston Ship Channel, including the area's largest breakbulk facility and two of the most efficient container terminals in the country.

Port Houston has made the commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.  An asset-backed, 100% renewable electricity contract has achieved 36% reduction of the Port's 2016 carbon footprint. The Port made the operational commitment to purchase only hybrid-electric yard cranes, reducing emissions from the Port's highest-emitting diesel-powered cargo-handling equipment by 90%. In addition, the Port has piloted an electric terminal tractor and is considering more. These steps represent just the first of many that are planned and being evaluated.
